The Macias Record:
- Border Security: Macias voted to fund an additional one hundred million dollars for security initiatives along the border. (HB 13)
- Illegal Immigration: Macias voted to impose strict penalties on Texas businesses convicted of knowingly hiring illegal aliens. (HB 1196)
- Voting and Election Integrity: Macias joint-authored HB 626 that required proof of citizenship for voter registration and would have ensured that only U.S. citizens could vote in Texas elections. Macias also co-authored HB 218 that required proof of identification in order to vote and would have ensured the highest level of integrity possible for the voting process in Texas. (Both bills passed the Texas House but were blocked by Democrats in the Senate).
- Transportation - Tolls: Macias fought against tolling existing corridors and foreign-owned roads, and voted for a two-year moratorium to study alternatives. (HB 1892)
- Pro-2nd Amendment: Macias co-authored HB 284, the "Castle Doctrine" bill to reform Texas' self-defense law providing property owners the legal basis to stand their ground and defend their home and loved ones and removed the so-called "duty to retreat".
- Property Taxes: Macias voted to pass SCR 20, which funded the largest property tax reduction in state history and further voted to unfreeze the property tax rate for Senior Citizens and then to re-freeze them down to the new reduced rate.
- Jessica's Law: Macias voted for and strongly supports Jessica's Law (HB 8) which created a mandatory twenty-five year sentence for the rape of a child and allows the death penalty for repeat offenders
The Macias Mission:
- Border Security: Macias will work tirelessly to end sanctuary cities in Texas by requiring local law enforcement agencies to turn over any illegal immigrants they encounter to federal authorities.
- Illegal Immigration: Macias will lead the fight to ensure that illegal aliens are no longer eligible for in-state tuition at public universities.
- Fiscal Responsibility: Macias supports a constitutional amendment requiring two-thirds of the legislature to approve any tax increase.
- Transportation - Tolls: Macias will fight to stop diversion of the gas tax and require responsive transportation planning.
- Education: As a member of the Public Education Committee in the Texas House, Macias works with parents, teachers, and school districts to improve the quality of education for all Texas children.
