Macias Appointed to House Committee on Public Education

Austin, TX - Today, Speaker Tom Craddick (R - Midland) appointed Rep. Nathan Macias (R - Bulverde) to the House Committee on Public Education. Rep. Macias will fill the seat left vacant by Rep. Anna Mowery (R - Fort Worth), who resigned in early August.

"Rep. Macias had an impressive first session in the Texas Legislature," Speaker Craddick said. "He was an active participant in the process and worked hard for his constituents in District 73. Given his success and his strong commitment to improving education for Texans, I thought he would be an excellent choice for this important committee."

The House Committee on Public Education oversees all matters pertaining to Texas' public school system, such as programs, accountability, and school finance. Rep. Macias will be one of nine representatives who sit on this committee.

"I thank Speaker Craddick for his confidence in my abilities and look forward to working with Chairman Eissler and my esteemed colleagues to address the many opportunities facing Texas education. The future of our great state is directly linked to the quality of our children's education, and I will give my utmost to continue improving that education," said Macias.

According to the House Rules (Rule 4, Section 4), a member is not allowed to serve on more than two standing substantive committees at the same time. As a result, Rep. Macias will no longer serve as a member of the House Committee on Pensions and Investments. These changes are effective immediately.
