Macias' Residential Trespass Bill Passes House; Will Enhance Law Enforcement Effectiveness

Austin, TX - Today, the Texas House of Representatives passed HB 1129 which would give law enforcement officers the option of issuing a citation in cases of residential trespass. This bill, authored by Representative Macias, was filed at the request of the city of New Braunfels and specifically authorizes law enforcement officers to issue a citation, instead of making an arrest (in cases of residential trespass). The goal of the legislation is to allow law enforcement agencies to better use their limited resources; instead of arresting an individual, a citation can be administered for the offense.

Rep. Macias stated, "I am proud that my first bill to be passed in the House will give our law enforcement agencies an opportunity to direct their efforts more efficiently instead of spending unnecessary hours tied up with administrative actions. This will also keep our full complement of officers available to maintain the safety and protection of our communities."
