MACIAS HELPING TO EMPOWER HOMEOWNERS TO STAND THEIR GROUND Austin, TX - This week Representative Nathan Macias co-authored HB 284. This bill, sometimes referred to as the "Castle Doctrine bill" would reform self-defense law in Texas to lift from the home or property owners the so-called "duty to retreat" in the face of home invasion. This will give them the option of meeting force with force to prevent death or bodily harm either to themselves, their families or others. "In an environment where homeowners have been sued by injured criminal attackers this is a reasonable bill that will allow property owners to exercise their basic right to defend themselves and their families without fear of frivolous legal repercussions that don't meet the common sense test," Macias said.
